America. Reserve Now
The
Deschutes River “Redside” is the native
trout of the river and grows to 24" plus.
It is, in my opinion, the hardest fighting trout
of any of the rivers I’ve fished in the West.
Itcan make mince meat of a 5 wt. setup.
Talk to anyone who’s fished this
hatch and you’ll probably have to put a sock
in their mouth to get them to shut up!
The
hatch begins mid-May in the
lower river, towards the mouth, and
systematically moves up the river over the
course of several weeks. These bugs are very
large, as far as bugs go anyway, and it’s no
wonder that the Redside is as tuned into the
hatch as they are. The Stonefly is the smaller
of the two bugs and measures to 2½" in length. The larger Salmon Fly
can measure up to 4" in length, and provide quite a meal for the
waiting trout. Reserve Now
