Salmon Fishing:
Buoy 10 & Columbia River
Fall Salmon
August - September

Lights, Camera, Action! The annual return of Fall Salmon to the Columbia River is one of the best runs on the continent. Fall Chinook (King Salmon) run 15 to 50 pounds with the Coho Salmon (Silver Salmon) weighing between 6 and 20 pounds.  Reserve Now
I start fishing the mouth of the river and the ocean August 1 and remain in the Astoria area until mid-September. Trolled herring is the method of choice in the lower river.  Reserve Now
Limits of fish for my boat during this run are a daily occurrence with the action at times bordering chaos!

As the fish make their way up the river I like to ambush the big Kings between Longview and Bonneville Dam. Back trolled Kwikfish and at anchor, wobbler fishing is great fun. By this time we’re fishing within 45 minutes of Portland, making it easy for everyone to get to the fishing grounds.

Sturgeon Fishing:
Columbia River &
Willamette River
Winter Sturgeon
January - March

Columbia River Sturgeon are one of the main angling attractions in the Pacific Northwest. They grow to massive proportions, some to well over 1,000 pounds. Regulations prevent us from retaining fish that size, since that is where the broodstock is derived.

Columbia River Sturgeon Fishing

Keepers from Bonneville Dam to Wauna measure 42"- 60" and Wauna to the mouth of the river are 45 to 60 inches in length. Keeper Sturgeon have a halibut like taste that make some of the best table fare around. A well-fed, 60" fish can push 60 pounds and give you all you can handle during the fight.

Over 1 million sturgeon live between Bonneville Dam and the mouth of the river. That's about 6,800 fish per mile, giving anglers the best sturgeon fishing anywhere.
Winter Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia and Willamette is a favorite of people in the area. The grounds are close to Portland and the catch this time of year is great. The sturgeon bite comes alive with the arrival of the Cowlitz River and Sandy River smelt. White sturgeon favors smelt and fishing with fresh smelt is fantastic.  Reserve Now

Columbia River Sturgeon are one of the main angling attractions in the Pacific Northwest. They grow to massive proportions, some to well over 1,000 pounds. Regulations prevent us from retaining fish that size, since that is where the broodstock is derived.

Keeper sturgeon measure 42"- 60" and are a Halibut-type meat that is absolutely delicious. A well-fed, 60" fish can push 100 pounds and give you all you can handle during the fight. Over 1,000,000 sturgeon live between Bonneville Dam and the mouth of the river. That's about 6,800 fish per river mile, giving anglers the best sturgeon fishing anywhere. Reserve Now

Columbia River Sturgeon
I like the idea of hooking lots of 25 pound sturgeon in 5 to 10 foot of water with salmon gear.

This is the most popular sturgeon fishery in the Northwest, with warm weather and the best sturgeon  fishing around.

Limits are very common in the Estuary and there’s no better way to do it than with light tackle. Anchovies, smelt and sand shrimp are all favorites for the sturgeon in this area.
